Alph Emmanuel

MD

Alph Emmanuel, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in bariatric, revisional, and robotic surgery. He earned his medical degree at St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India, completed his general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut, and trained in bariatric, minimally invasive, and robotic surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, one of the oldest bariatric training programs in the country. He performs sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch and SADI, gastric balloon, and revisional procedures, along with hernia and gallbladder surgery, and he also manages medical weight loss. Dr. Emmanuel starts every relationship by walking a patient through every option available to them, including the expected results of each, and then supports whichever one they choose. He guides patients through each step of the process, so the path to getting healthy has as few hurdles as possible.

The Patient Experience

Dr. Emmanuel takes a personalized, education-focused approach to bariatric and general surgery, helping each patient understand every available option, including the expected results of each approach, before making a decision. He offers sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch and SADI, gastric balloon, revisional procedures, hernia and gallbladder surgery, and medical weight-loss care. His goal is to support patients in choosing the path that best fits their needs while helping them achieve better health and regain the everyday activities that obesity may have limited, from playing with their children to enjoying a fuller, more active life.

From the first appointment through treatment and recovery, Dr. Emmanuel and the Strive Surgical team help patients move forward with fewer obstacles. Patient Concierges guide them through the process, including the insurance requirements, while Strive’s collaborative network provides access to specialists such as cardiologists, pulmonologists, nutritionists, psychologists, and plastic surgeons when appropriate. With practical guidance and support at every step, patients are encouraged to focus on progress—not perfection—as they work toward becoming healthier.

“We are looking for Progress, not Perfection.” Nobody is perfect, not me, not you. Everyday is a challenge and its impossible to be prefect everyday in everything that we do. But if we do a little better today than we did yesterday, then we have made progress towards being a better, heathier person. And small improvements over time will lead to tremendous success!”
