Sherard Chiu, MD, FACS, FASMBS is double board-certified in surgery and obesity medicine, a combination that lets him treat weight as a medical condition (surgically and non-surgically) rather than a single procedure. A graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine, he completed his general surgery residency at Atlanta Medical Center and a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Tennessee. He has cared for patients across Connecticut since 2017, with hospital appointments in Stamford, Bridgeport, and Hartford, and is a certified robotic console surgeon who now trains other surgeons in robotic technique. Alongside the full range of bariatric and revisional procedures, he performs hernia, gallbladder, and foregut surgery. Dr. Chiu’s guiding principle is simple: treat the patient as a person, not a number.
