Spencer A. Holover
MD, FACS, FASMBS
Spencer A. Holover, MD, FACS, FASMBS is among the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the United States, having performed more than 4,500 weight loss operations and 15,000 endoscopic procedures since 2003. With more than twenty years of experience treating obesity, Dr. Holover has helped shape the evolution of obesity management. He was among the first surgeons anywhere to perform sleeve gastrectomy, and in 2006 co-authored one of the earliest published studies on the procedure – a widely cited paper that helped establish the sleeve as safe and effective and contributed to its becoming the most common weight loss operation performed in the world today. That depth makes him a resource for the hardest cases: complex revisional surgery and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy alongside primary procedures. Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, he trained at St. Barnabas Medical Center and completed an advanced fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center under Dr. Philip Schauer. He has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor every year since 2015.
